Regional Stakeholder Symposium on Synthetic Drugs
The Prevention Resource Center in Region 11, a program of Behavioral Health Solutions of South Texas, in collaboration with nine Community Partnership Coalitions in the region presented a panel of experts at the “Regional Stakeholder Symposium on Synthetic Drugs” on Friday, February 26, 2016. This event brought together experts in the fields of law enforcement, legal system, forensics, medical, and treatment. Administrators, law enforcement officials, counselors, and other regional partners and officials attended this symposium in an effort to expand their knowledge of issues related to the increase of synthetic drug use among adolescents and the many negative consequences resulting from this behavior. This collaborative initiative was brought upon in an effort to raise awareness and inform the community regarding these dangerous drugs that pose a threat to our region’s health and wellness. The distinguished panel of experts was comprised of: Chief Deputy Raymundo Del Bosque from Zapata Sheriff’s Department; Jeremy Sorelle, Border Prosecutor from Willacy County District Attorney’s Office; Cynthia Zaragosa, Forensic Analyst from the Texas Department of Public Safety in Weslaco; Dr. Susan Dalterio from the University of Texas San Antonio; Eluterio Blanco Jr., Instructor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley; and Pat Stein and Rick Berlin from the Texas Office of the Attorney General. More than two hundred and fifty attendees were part of this regional effort, which was the first one ever organized by regional agencies.
