Regional Needs Assessment (RNA) Report

The Regional Needs Assessment (RNA) report, created annually by Prevention Resource Center 11 (PRC 11) in collaboration with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), has been a key tool for understanding substance use trends and their impact in South Texas. The 2024 RNA was the final report in this series; however, the findings will remain available as a valuable resource for community stakeholders, agencies, and organizations.

This comprehensive report provides crucial insights into the trends, outcomes, and consequences associated with alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use in the region. It has served as a guide for strategic prevention planning, helping stakeholders address substance use patterns, health disparities, and risk and protective factors in their communities.

Key components of the RNA include:

  • Substance use trends at national, state, regional, and local levels.

  • Risk and protective factor analysis to inform prevention strategies.

  • Consumption patterns and consequences related to alcohol, tobacco, and drugs.

  • Identification of service gaps and data accessibility issues within Region 11.

Though the 2024 RNA marks the end of the annual reporting cycle, the data will continue to be used to build the Regional Data Repository, a key asset for long-term prevention efforts. These reports will remain available to assist health and human services organizations and other stakeholders in ongoing prevention planning and resource allocation.

PRC 11 acknowledges the vital role of our collaborative partners who contributed to the creation of the RNA, and we are committed to keeping this resource accessible to ensure that it continues to support the health and well-being of communities in South Texas.
